Do employers accept TrainCan certificates?

Yes. TrainCan certifications are recognized by employers, public health authorities, and organizations across Canada. Since 2000, more than 800,000 individuals have completed TrainCan training programs.

Which course do I need?

The right course depends on your role and employer requirements.

BASICS.fst® is designed for food handlers and frontline employees, while ADVANCED.fst® is intended for supervisors, managers, chefs, owner/operators, and individuals responsible for food safety oversight.

TrainCan also offers specialty training including Allergen Awareness, HACCP Principles™, WHMIS 2022, Gluten-Free Training, Thermometer Training, and workplace safety programs.

How do TrainCan exams work?

Depending on the course and delivery method, exams may be completed online using webcam proctoring or through an approved TrainCan Proctor in a classroom setting.

Detailed instructions, equipment requirements, and exam procedures are provided before your exam begins.

How long is my certification valid?

Food handler certification is valid for five (5) years, which is the industry standard across Canada. After five years, recertification is required depending on employer or public health requirements.

Do TrainCan courses expire?

No. TrainCan course access does not expire. Once you purchase a course, you can study at your own pace and write the exam when you are ready.

This flexibility is ideal for learners who are balancing work, school, family, or other commitments. There is no cost to re-access the course if you had to pause your studies for an extended period of time.
